For an attractive appearance and better durability
Pharmaceutical labels can be given a variety of finishes to endow them with special characteristics. For example, over-the-counter products can be made more attractive to buyers if they have a special look and feel. Finishes can also make labels more durable and resistant to wear.
Faller Packaging offers a number of finishing options for labels. Some examples:
- Cold film transfer: Metallic or holographic foil elements are applied to the label by means of flexographic printing. An embossing tool is not necessary. This process can be used to achieve elegant silver and gold effects. The surface feel is not changed.
- Varnishing: Special varnishes are applied to protect the label surface from fading in the sun and from mechanical damage. Varnishes are also good for creating a glossy, high-quality appearance. Another use is to produce special characteristics. For example, the label adhesive can be neutralised at a certain place to make opening or removal easier.
- Laminating: A transparent, self-adhesive PET or PP film is applied to the printed face stock. This increases the label’s resistance to mechanical and chemical damage. The films are available in matt and glossy versions depending on the desired appearance.
