Faller Packaging presents the Competence Box:
Sustainable, tamper-proof packaging solutions at CPhI in Milan
Sustainable and tamper-proof – these are key requirements for pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging. The Competence Box from Faller Packaging is a whole box full of solutions that satisfy these requirements. It also includes customer support from the idea to the final product. The Box will make its debut at CPhI in Milan.
An important rule in any industry is that packaging should conserve resources. The same applies to pharmaceuticals and healthcare. For this reason sustainability has top priority with Faller Packaging. It starts with raw materials and production and extends all the way to the recyclable product. Faller, a specialist in folding cartons, labels, and leaflets, supports its customers on their route to a climate-neutral future. The Competence Box is a box full of practical ideas that can help. Faller not only provides individual components, as a system supplier it also combines them into tailor-made complete solutions. Its packaging engineers work with users to analyse their secondary packaging requirements and find optimal results.
Guaranteed tamper-proof
There are now a number of ways to protect patients and drug brands against counterfeiting. The EU has already introduced increased protection by requiring first-opening indication and serialisation. Faller Packaging is helping pharmaceutical manufacturers by offering ingenious mechanical solutions. These include security adhesives and tamper-evident seals that are applied over the tuck-in flap. Perforations can also show whether a package has been opened.
New to the product range: a semi-transparent paper closure label which fulfils two important requirements: It consists of a fibre-based, unmixed material, meaning it is completely recyclable. It is also tamper-proof and therefore complies with the EN 16679:2014 standard. Also new are digitally printed pharmaceutical labels with concealed security features. They are printed with a high-quality ink that is visible only under UV light. Invisible text, variable data, codes and symbols can easily be added.
Comprehensive expertise
Faller Packaging draws on the expertise of industry partners in the development of packaging to meet future needs. For example, through a cooperative agreement with Uhlmann Pac-Systeme it is offering an approach that covers the entire packaging process, including consultation at an early stage. Customers benefit from optimised packaging, design and machine solutions that ensure reliable and secure production processes.
Another partner is the machine manufacturer Schubert-Pharma. Together, the two companies support customers with a seamless packaging service that runs from launch to series production. They also provide support for rapid market entry following approval. To bridge machine delivery times or to pack small quantities, Faller Packaging supplies pre-assembled pharmaceutical packaging for manual filling at the customer’s site.
Pharmaceutical products in paper pouches
As part of successful cooperation with Schubert, an innovation team at Faller Packaging developed paper pouches as a new, sustainable alternative to folding cartons. Faller tested the processing in advance. The idea for biodegradable paper packaging comes from the food industry. Until now, it has not been applied with pharmaceutical and healthcare products. But that can change. “We’re open to talks with pharmacists and users,” says marketing manager Sarina Diebold. “With this sealable paper packaging users can reduce their CO2 emissions by up to 90 percent and optimise their carbon footprint.”
